We are competing in the 2017 HBF Run for a Reason again this year and all donations go to the Cancer Council WA.
This is a worthy cause close to our hearts. Just over 2 years ago Peter found a lump in his neck after having a biopsy he found out he had cancer in his lymph nodes but we were told this was not the primary cancer. So after a further tests and scans found that he had a tumour on his tonsil which has metastasised. The additional scans also identified that he had a tumour on his pancreas, which was a second unrelated cancer.
We later found that the tumour on his pancreas had also metastasised to his lymph nodes in his abdomen.
This was extremely distressing but after every hurdle we have pulled ourselves together and got on with the fight which included three major surgeries, 33 courses of daily radiation on his neck and throat, chemotherapy. This all took its toll on his body as he was unable to eat, sleep and constantly felt like he was choking. Losing 20 kgs it was evident that he was in for a serious battle. Then when we thought the battle was over another scan identified the pancreatic tumour had continue to spread to further lymph nodes, bone and liver. Again extremely distressed by this he commenced the next treatment which is targeted treatment given intravenously a dose of radionuclide peptide therapy. This treatment prohibits him from going near anyone for a few days and is accompanied with 2 weeks of oral chemo. So with 2 rounds completed by the time the HBF run for a reason has commenced he will be finished his final treatment only a couple of weeks earlier in the month.
As they say it is a process and we plan on getting through this fight and the Symonds family are all proud to be doing the race and supporting their Dad/Hubby, Peter who is proud to be the Cancer Councils Ambassador for Run for a Reason. This year we are hoping to beat last year’s fundraising and reach our target of $10,000.
